I have been asked by the Open Street Map Foundation to make clear that this project is not part of OpenStreetMap. They have also requested that I change the name of the project as they feel it confuses market participants as to the provenance and nature or the products and services. Their trademark -“OpenStreetMap” is registered here: https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/4/EU007366859
They have recently adopted a trademark policy as of January 2018 – https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Trademark_Policy – in which it states that:
You may not:
- abbreviate the wordmarks, combine them with other words (“OpenStreetMapThing”), or substitute words in the mark (“OpenStreetThing” or “OpenThingMap”), especially where the new combination sounds similar to OpenStreetMap.
I have suggested a list of other names and they are going to discuss which of those would be acceptable it in their next meeting.
